ApolloLIMS functions as the core of the laboratory information system and controls the day-to-day workflow.  ApolloLIMS core features include: Security, Specimen Processing, Results Processing, Reporting, Inquiry and Customer Service. Other modules are available to expand core capabilities to ApolloLIMS. The high performance features and flexibility of ApolloLIMS makes it ideal for any laboratory application.

Specimen Processing
Specimen processing is the starting point to record a specimen entering the laboratory. Specimen samples may originate from human sources, water samples, animal specimens, pharmaceutical products, environmental testing or suspected bio-terrorism materials.
If it is a human specimen the patient information is entered into ApolloLIMS either manually or via an interface which establishes an electronic medical record. Requisitions (lab orders) and their associated specimens are also entered into ApolloLIMS during the specimen processing stage.
A variety of management reports allow the laboratory to ensure that the specimen processing area is operating efficiently.

Results Processing
The laboratory technologist can easily identify what work is outstanding by viewing the Pending Lists in ApolloLIMS. These reports can be viewed for an entire department or a specific work list.
The local system administrator controls the appearance and behavior of a test. In ApolloLIMS a test can be a standalone or part of a comprehensive Order Code. Testing algorithms can be predefined and the algorithm range from simple to very complex.

Specimens are available to be resulted individually or by batching like specimens together.
Worksheet batches help collate:

  • specimen result information

  • quality control elements

  • load sheets form laboratory instruments

The lab can control Review and Release procedures locally

Test results may be quantitative or qualitative and may be entered as free text or chosen from a predefined list. Normal ranges can be defined by species, sex, specimen type and patient age. A variety of flags can be associated with a specific result range or attached as a coded result.

Follow up or reflex testing can be locally defined, ApolloLIMS will automatically add the additional testing required as the situation warrants.

Reporting
The reporting module offers a variety of standard reports designed to fulfill a broad range of requirements. ApolloLIMS is able to fulfill diverse reporting requirements from providing a comprehensive diagnostic observation to a requesting agency all the way to measuring productivity and quality assurance in the laboratory environment.

ApolloLIMS also allows the administrator to categorize test results into Classes. These Result Classes can optionally be defined to require additional actions such as reporting positive results to a higher authority. By combining Reporting Queues with HL7 system to system data exchange, ApolloLIMS is a powerful reporting tool!

Inquiry
To give the laboratory quick and easy access to their data, the ApolloLIMS information inquiry module allow the technologist to search by patient name, specimen number as well as several other key fields. Once retrieved, the user can reprint a patient report, add internal comments or see the audit trail to research specimen and report handling history.

System to System data exchange
ApolloLIMS has adopted the HL7 as the principal communication method when communicating with another system. Internal system codes can be translated to several standard coding systems: CPT, ICD9, SNOMED, LOINC.

As an additional module, ApolloLIMS imports specimen orders and patient demographic information from a foreign system by listening on a dedicated network port and receiving HL7 formatted records. Raw data records are reformatted and made available to the accession process. The export of test results is also in HL7 format and can be directed to network or non-network submitters to be process into their respective databases.

Customer Service
ApolloLIMS helps you give better patient care and take care of your customers needs by offering a Customer Service area that will provide all the data you need while communicating with your customer. The user can easily retrieve patient information, add additional tests upon prescription, or call STAT or critical results to the submitting client account.

Additional modules that enhance this area include:  Quality Assurance, Advanced Reporting / Adhoc reports, STAT Call tracking, Supply Shipping…

Regulatory
ApolloLIMS conforms to industry standards including (but not limited to): HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, 21 CFR Part 11, SAMHSA, PHIN, ASTM, HL7.

Security
ApolloLIMS has been designed to insure that sensitive, privileged information and functions are restricted to authorized users. ApolloLIMS uses a multi-tiered, password-protected format to achieve this level of security.
